Hey everybody - it's our turn
to ask for a little help from you all: Please come to our gigantic yard
sale/hang out/BBQ this Saturday in Pioneer Park. It's on the corner of
Cocoanut and 12th Street, and we'll have lots of cool things for sale to
benefit our six-week fall tour including skateboards, musical equipment, J...onas's
old shorts that he used to wear to every show and never washed, and some of
Ryan's mismatched yet sophisticatedly patterned socks.
7.24.10
Tomorrow night we'll be playing at The Hub in
downtown Tampa; it'll be a full moon, we'll drink too much scotch, and most
likely turn into werewolves. Oh, and we'll also preview a few new things so
if you'd like a sneak peak before the album release, come have a Johnnie
Black with us!
7.13.10
...want to read this?
you'll have to wait for the album release

Dear shiny friends: Please let us introduce
our producers and mentors, Tom Klimchuck and Gary Meskil from the legendary
N.Y. hardcore band PRO-PAIN. Enjoy :)
Dear everyone we know: our show this Friday
will be a monumental event NOT because we may or may not be dressing up as
Hugh Heffner & his faithful Playboy bunnies, but because we are driving our
new bus on her maiden voyage to St. Pete. ***There are 8 seats available
for anyone who wants to join us*** Please message me or Jonas or
call one of us if you are interested. Seriously. See you all soon!

Put your helmets on and click this link for a wild, wild ride
brought to you by VANQUISH - a new project starring Alexandre Lavigne and DJ
Monstar. Currently spinning Hippies like a double helix.
Commencing pre-production for new record.
Jonas is killing it on the click. Who wants evidence?

...and as one door closes, another opens.
We would like to welcome and announce Ryan O'Neill (Villanova Junction,
Stiff Saints, The Uptight) as our new third man in crime. We took Ryan
on as a second guitarist at two previous tribute shows and not only did he
prove to be an excellent musician, but he was a pleasure to work with and
proves daily to be a good friend. His blues and punk background make
him an obvious choice as the perfect addition to Sons of Hippies.
Cheers!!!

Goodbye Michael Mök!!! As some of you
may know already, our beloved bass-thrashing Icelander is leaving the band
on a call of social duty. Michael is returning to his home of Seltjarnarnes,
Iceland -after being chosen as one of an elite few to comprise a group of
analysts who will research and study the global effects of the
Eyjafjallajokull volcano that recently erupted. We love you
Michael!!! Please be safe and do the world good! This is how we
will always remember you.

HEATWAVE!!
It's in three days folks: 40+ performing acts at 8 different venues across
Ybor City. We'll be at
New World Brewery at 10:30pm - See you there!

"Everybody's screaming. Everybody's laughing. Everybody's waiting for the
man to land on the moon... Is there a moon? Is there a man?"

Our next show will be at Ace's Lounge on May 7th with Bradenton-based
Americana Heroes: Have Gun, Will Travel (Their latest release was the no. 20
most added album on the CMJ radio charts). We were thrilled when asked to
open for them at this cozy club for what they called, "a special homecoming
performance." Here's a link to a tbt article that pretty much sums up their
awesomeness:
Also, tonight we go on at 6pm at the Pine Street Live,
Orlando, FL. The town is full of great music for the next two days - go
enjoy it!

Record Store Day!!
Please support the pursuit of music and all those who create it by visiting
your local record store on April 17th. Most shops offer special discounts
and rare releases for this day only, and we're honored to perform at Mojo
Books & Music in Tampa.
ON THAT SAME DAY, we're headlining a show at
Skipper's with seven other incredible bands chosen from the Bay area, for
the Tampa Bay Times Ultimate Band Showcase

Dear friends: soon, we'll be adding a new
section to the site which will chronicle and document (docnicle) all things
important leading up to our album release and tour in September. Most
important, the overhaul of our new (almost 20 year-old) tour bus. She'll win
beauty pageants from here to Texas. Here's a sneaky peak:

There's a wood cabin a bit north of here,
where delicious homemade beer flows like syrup from a Vermont Maple. This
Saturday, there will be delicious music too.

Two nights ago, Ybor City was
alive!
Creative
Loafing's annual Sensory Overload festival took five neighborhood venues
hostage and set up art installations, invited bands to perform live original
music, encouraged spontaneous dancing with the beautiful and talented All
Out Dance Team, and promoted a multi-media joining of all things creative.
Street teams handed out Sensory Overload's calling card - a delicate white
feather tied to piece of beige sandpaper on top of a shred of silk.
Sons of Hippies was invited
to play in an art space called The Roosevelt where we had the
pleasure of meeting a group of dedicated artists who were immediately kind
and supportive. Thank you to Creative Loafing Tampa, The Campus TV, and
The Roosevelt for a sensational evening.
Here's an interview that Jason Henson did with us after the show:
Sons of Hippies: Sexy psychedelia from south of the Skyway
-- Julie Garisto, tbt*.
Funny enough, Sons of Hippies —
which features singer-guitarist
Katherine Kelly,
drummer Jonas Canales
and bassist Michael Mök
— doesn’t sound like hippies at
all.
That’s not to say the name isn’t
apt. There’s something spry and
rebellious about the trio from
Sarasota. They might not be
skipping through daisies, but
they delight in tripping up
expectations...
